Born a year either side of 1950 you'll be surprised at their energy. They’ve been together as a couple since 1983 (and are parents to CBBC's Art Ninja, Ricky Martin) but didn’t start playing music together until 2012 when they joined forces with a friend from the village they had moved to in 2007. As a trio they performed a few covers and self-penned songs at a comedy night they had arranged. They enjoyed it so much they started going to open mics and eventually ended up as an 80’s covers band called Phatt Knappii. Their friend finally decided he didn’t need the music anymore so, in 2019, Liz and Terry started playing only self-penned songs as Hedgehog Reality.
They are based near Boston, Lincolnshire, with a willingness to travel, having played at venues in places such as Brighton, London, Hereford, Southport, Nottingham, Weatherby, Macclesfield and around the Fens.
They have released seventeen songs through DistroKid available on most popular streaming platforms and have enough original songs (most can be seen on their YouTube channel) for around three hours of music.
Their influences span several decades and hope they inspire more than just their thirteen (between them) grandchildren. The have been likened to The Vaselines and B52s amongst others but they cover a mixture of genres that make them very pub friendly.
They enjoy playing at venues away from their home town and entertaining new audiences. They’ve appeared on a number of local radio shows and streaming sites and a few years ago streamed seventy-five consecutive weekly live streams on their Facebook page.
Terry messed around with a guitar in his twenties but didn’t take it up seriously until his late fifties. Liz had never played an instrument until her sixties and now thumps out a steady bass line, singing both lead and backing vocals, though Terry takes the lead more often. They split the songwriting between them which helps with the mix of gentle and heavier sounds.
Terry’s history goes back to his days as s vinyl DJ, manager of a band and working security at The Lyceum in The Strand in the 70s. Though working in a variety of jobs Liz has mothered five children (they have seven between them). Together they helped to make paintball legal in the UK as Chairman and Administrative Officer of the European Paintball Sports Federation, and later became UK Athletics coaches to complement their own running careers where they both set age-related records for their club in the London Marathon. They both retired from work at a primary school while Terry was also publishing an award-winning quarterly called Murky Depths. The are currently involved in establishing a regular original music night in a venue in Boston, UK.
